Dozens of protesters in Austin lined the entrance to the state capitol Thursday night, demanding justice and criticizing the new Arizona immigration law that is now being enforced.
The most controversial parts of the law are temporarily blocked. Still, opponents say it is far from victory.
"There is no partial solution to hatred," protester Rocio Villalobos said. "There is no partial solution to racism. The SB 1070 law needs to be done away with completely."
Local Tea Party members would like to see a similar law in Texas.
"The federal government is not protecting our borders," Greg Holloway of Austin Tea Party Patriots said. "It's not doing a good job of encouraging legal immigration and bringing the people who are good, hard-working people into the country."
Both the Democratic Party of Travis County and the Republican Party of Travis County agree the Arizona law will be headed to the Supreme Court.
