About 30 National Guardsmen from the Austin area returned home to their families Thursday morning after a 8-month tour in Iraq.

The guardsmen, which are part of the 72nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team based out of Houston, are part of the 90-person Bravo Company that arrived at the Austin Army Aviation Facility at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport at 7:45 a.m. Thursday.

The guardsmen had been training together at  Fort Bliss since Oct. 2009, then deployed for Iraq in December.

The 72nd Infantry Brigade is made up in total of 3,000 troops, many of which are being deployed back to Central and South Texas in the next month.
