A man convicted of killing an Austin firefighter while he was driving while intoxicated received a plea deal and has been released from jail Wednesday after his sentence was thrown out.
Rolando Ramirez was convicted in 2008 for hitting Austin firefighter Guillermo Balderrama off his motorcycle in Kyle in 2007. Ramirez was found to be intoxicated at the time.
Originally, Ramirez was sentenced to 10 years in prison, but he appealed his sentence and made a plea bargain with Hays County.
Balderrama was a five-year veteran of the Austin Fire Department
