Reported by: Stephanie Serna Saturday, Nov 21, 2009 @11:02pm CST Families got a jump start to their holidays at The Domain this Saturday for the Macy's Christmas tree lighting. Organizers say about 20,000 people made it out for the annual tree lighting and to see American Idol finalist Jason Castro, who helped move the ceremony along. "The singer was pretty cute and I really liked his dreadlocks," said Taya Starza. Castro talked with KEYE TV on Saturday about his new sound. "My voice is getting stronger," said Castro. "It's Jason still, but a more pumped up Jason!" Gaby Arriaga made a last minute trip with her family from San Marcos to see the lights. "We knew there was going to be lights," said Arriaga. "My little one was excited about it." Many families snapped shots of the 40-foot Christmas tree, complete with more than 6,000 lights and 400 ornaments. "It's beautiful," said Arriaga. "There are really nice ornaments and everything." Spectators also enjoyed a fireworks show and holiday songs around the tree. "Austin is a great place and people love the outdoors and the holidays here," said Lauren Harris with The Domain, "So, it makes sense to have something like this here." Throughout the holiday season, The Domain will offer special live music performances, weekly firework displays, strolling carolers and complimentary horse-drawn carriage rides.
