Reported by: Stephanie Serna Thursday, Nov 19, 2009 @09:26pm CST Police are looking for a man accused of stealing golf carts from the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation after the "Race for the Cure" at the Domain in Austin.
Jeff Goen of Lone Star Carts & Services told KEYE-TV that dozens of carts were secured near The Domain's property the night after the race and that's when three of them were stolen. "We were there at 8 o'clock the next the morning, ready to start picking up the golf carts when we discovered there were some missing." Two flat bed golf carts and a six seater were missing from the scene. According to an arrest warrant, Bryce Dimicelli, 21 stole the golf carts. According to the affidavit, the Komen Foundation was contacted by a friend of Dimicelli's, who told them where the golf carts were located. Dimicelli told his friend that he had bought the golf carts and wanted help loading up all three. The friend told police there was only room for one of them, which they hauled to McQueeney, near Seguin. The other two were stashed against the building. Police paper work, shows that the friend thought Dimicelli was acting suspicious so he called the construction site where the carts were and that's when he found out they were stolen. The two flat beds, valued at $4,000 each, were found by construction workers. However, the six seater golf cart, valued at $5,000 is still missing. The Komen Foundation's insurance will have to pay for the missing golf cart. "The unfortunate thing is there's a claim that has to be filed," said Goen. "The Race for the Cure is a great event, it raises a lot of money, and it's for a good cause. For us to have to file a claim to get the money back for the stolen vehicle, is kind of a sad thing." The Komen Foundation released this statement: "It's unfortunate that something like this would happen, especially at an event that is focused on bringing people together. However, there were many wonderful people attending the Race for the Cure this year who were committed to making the event a huge success. We will continue to work hard to raise funds to provide support to local breast healthcare organizations and to fund research for a cure. In fact, we encourage people to continue donating to the 2009 Susan G. Komen Austin Race for the Cure until November 30th." There's a warrant out for the arrest of Bryce Dimicelli who faces charges of theft, a state jail felony. |
