Reported by: Ryan Loyd Tuesday, Nov 17, 2009 @05:24pm CST You may call it crazy, but a cat who befriended a cop in Taylor, north east of Austin, is becoming one of the most talked about stories around town.
On Nov. 12, Taylor police officer Keith Urban stopped a vehicle for speeding in a rural area sprawling with farmland. When Urban approached the vehicle to begin writing a ticket, a kitten appeared from behind an old, beaten down garage, who appeared to want to make a new friend. “The animal was friendly enough to sit on his ticket book and climbed on his shoulder,” said Cpt. Don Georgens with the Taylor Police Department. But the cat didn’t seem to want to stop, clawing at the heels of the officer. Eventually, he climbed all the way up the officer’s back and onto his head. “He [the officer] still went about his business,” said Cpt. Georgens. “He finished the citation and went about his way.” The attention-getting cat is also getting the attention of neighbors who want to stop in and see the cat for themselves, and even give the cat a bite to eat. ![]() “I can't see the cat go hungry,” said Kit Curtin. “I would come out here every day to feed the cat. Look at this cat, it's beautiful. He needs a good home,” she said. The entire event was captured on Officer Urban’s dash camera, which, by policy, is required to be turned on during a stop. Some say the tale of the cat and the cop will go down in history as two friends who found each other in the most unlikely of places. Watch entire video of the traffic stop. |
