  • Moment of silence after victim's names are read

    Saturday, Nov 7, 2009 @09:04pm CST

Saturday afternoon was the first time fort hood officials have released all the names of those killed in Thursday’s mass shooting.

At approximately 4 o’clock Saturday afternoon, Colonel John Rossi came out in front of the 3 Corp building and read all thirteen names.

The names read were of twelve soldiers and one civilian employee; among them, ten men and three women.

Colonel Rossi told reporters that these men and women are more than great Americans, they were sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, mothers and fathers; and all are brave members of the army family.

All were killed on Thursday, after suspected shooter major Nidal Malik Hasan opened fire in a packed room of about 100 civilian workers and 300 unarmed soldiers waiting for vaccines.

Rossi said the shooter fired more than a hundred shots. "These heroes are so much more than simply names. And I ask that we all take a moment to remember them all," said Rossi.

After the names were read, soldiers observed a moment of silence and then walked away.
