Three Austin campuses have called off classes due to flu concerns, and that could leave some parents struggling to find childcare. Regents School of Austin is the latest to shut down, after a second-grader was diagnosed with seasonal flu. School officials say they didn't want to take any chances until tests can determine if the child -- and her mother -- have H-1-N-1. So they called off classes for Thursday and Friday. Lucy Read Pre-K and Kirby Hall, a private school, are closed through May 11 due to flu concerns. Some day care providers are bracing for a possible influx of new students if more schools shut down. The closings have some parents re-adjusting their daily schedules to take care of their kids. “I work from home so I'm typically here, but the kids aren't typically here,” said Clay Davis, whose three children attend Regents. “So we needed to balance things to make sure someone was going to be around today.” No actives cases of H1 N1 have been confirmed at any of the campuses. School officials at all three say they elected to close their doors as a precaution. |
